Entry #3 - Active Listening

Hey, we’re back with another entry after a long break, and this time, I’ll be diving into a topic that's crucial for effective communication: active listening. So, why did I choose this topic? Well, recently, some friends needed to interview me for one of their assignments, and the topic happened to be active listening. After the interview, I found myself reflecting on the importance of this skill and realized it would make for a great blog post. Active listening goes beyond just hearing words; it's about fully engaging with the speaker and understanding their message on multiple levels. It involves paying attention not only to what is said but also to the speaker's body language, tone, and emotions. It's about reading between the lines and truly empathizing with the speaker's perspective. In today's fast-paced world, where distractions are plentiful and attention spans are short, active listening has become increasingly rare. Yet, it's a skill that ca...

Entry #2 - Loneliness

Hey, I’m back! Today’s post will be a shorter one since I made another post 2 days ago. Anyways, today’s topic is loneliness. Now you may be asking why am I talking about . Well, simply put, it’s something I experience pretty often, and I know people who experience it. Every single interaction I’ve had with people trying to ‘help’ me with my loneliness usually involves them telling me to get more friends. However, to understand why more friends does not solve loneliness, we need to understand the difference between feeling lonely and being lonely.  It might sound like wordplay, but trust me, there's a world of difference. Feeling lonely is that pang in your chest when you're in a crowd but somehow miles away from everyone else. Being lonely is to simply not be in a place with other people. My friends, while well-intentioned, don’t understand the difference, and as such, every well-inte...

Entry #1 - Writing What You Know

So this is my first time writing a blog. I’ve read blogs before, and I’ve dabbled in a bit of creative writing before, but this is the first time I’m making a blog. This blog will contain some personal lessons to creative writing that I’ve learnt along the way, or perhaps something interesting that piqued my interest. That being said, I should perhaps start with an introduction. My name is Hans Morris, I’m from India and I’m turning 21 this December. I love to read books, listen to music and play video games. I can play the drums and I enjoy playing football and badminton. Now, onto the topic for today, Writing What You Know . I know this seems like something obvious, after all, how can you write about something you don’t know? But I have come to the realisation that this also applies to more than just a plot. For example, let’s take one of the activities we had to do. For the said activity, we had to borrow 2 books from the library, find a few key points from skimming, and wri...
